Researcher from University of Michigan Health System working on one of brilliant research which is not only help full for our academic society but provide our scientist a way to find out more drugs for fighting off number of deadly viral diseases in future.
Scientists suggests by detecting “Sugar Code” that our body cells used to communicate and Virus used to hijacked this sugar code and other pathogens did same thing. The research published in Journal Cell authored by: David Markovitz, M.D., co-senior author of the new paper and a professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School.
The research totally based on Banana protein named BanLac that able read sugar on outside of both viruses and other cells. According to David “What we've done is exciting because there is potential for BanLec to develop into a broad spectrum antiviral agent, something that is not clinically available to physicians and patients right now.”
One of important part of this work done by Jeanne Stuckey, Ph.D. and Jennifer Meagher, Ph.D. of the Center for Structural Biology at the U-M Life Sciences Institute is decoding the structure of BanLac molecule.
The technique used is Advanced Photon Source synchrotron at Argonne National Laboratory and funding in part from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
