Researchers from Polytechnique Montréal developed type of nano robotic agents that moves through the bloodstream, administer with the drug for specifically targeting cancerous cells of tumors. This important achievement towards cancer research done by the researcher of Polytechnique Montréal, Université de Montréal and McGill University.

The research article has recently appeared in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.

"These legions of nanorobotic agents were actually composed of more than 100 million flagellated bacteria — and therefore, self-propelled — and loaded with drugs that moved by taking the most direct path between the drug's injection point and the area of the body to cure,"By: Professor Sylvain Martel head of the research team and Director of the Polytechnique Montréal Nanorobotics Laboratory.

"The drug's propelling force was enough to travel efficiently and enter deep inside the tumors”

Just after entering in tumor the nanorobotic agents identify the less oxygen area in tumors, named: Hypoxic region and delivered drug to them. These hypoxic zones were created by consumption of Oxygen by developing tumor cells;hypoxic zone is more resistant to a number of therapy named radiotherapy.

"This innovative use of nanotransporters will have an impact not only on creating more advanced engineering concepts and original intervention methods, but it also throws the door wide open to the synthesis of new vehicles for therapeutic, imaging and diagnostic agents,"By: Professor Martel
