Instead of saying that ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) is a solid, it is more accurate to say that it is a solution of ammonia (NH3) and water (H2O). There is no definite NH4OH molecule formed when ammonia gas dissolves in water; instead, ammonium ions (NH4+) and hydroxide ions (OH-) are produced.
Ammonia acts as a base in this process, raising the concentration of hydroxide ions by absorbing a proton from water to generate ammonium ions and hydroxide ions. However, ammonium hydroxide is not a standalone chemical; rather, it is a dissolved ammonia ion used as a representation.

Ammonium hydroxide(nh4oh) is made up of ammonium ions (NH4+) and hydroxide ions (OH-) in a solution of ammonia gas (NH3) dissolved in water (H2O). It is critical to remember, however, that NH4OH does not exist in the solid form as a distinct chemical. When ammonia gas is dissolved in water, the resulting substance is a solution.
Ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) is also known as ammonia hydroxide and is a weak basic. It results from the reaction between ammonia (NH3) and water, which produces the ions ammonium (NH4+) and hydroxide (OH-):
NH4OH accepts protons (H+) in a chemical reaction because of the hydroxide ions (OH-) it contains. It lacks the strong alkaline qualities of stronger bases like sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hence is classified as a weak base when dissolved in water.
