Conventionally the weighing machine has been part of human life and no activity of Human life is carried out without any weighing balance. Traditionally we used to use Mechanical weighing balances that are used for various activities and gradually the mechanical balances are transformed into Electronic weighing balances.
Mechanical weighing machine consists of many mechanical parts, levers, and spring& dials to display the weight. In the Electronic weighing machine apart from the above we have electronics & software also present for the better understanding, conversions, user friendly operations, convenes. Here the technology that is used mainly, Strain-gauge, Electro-magnetic force restoration – EMFR (or) Electro-magnetic force compensation – EMFC and finally the tuning fork technology.
Construction of a weighing instrument means of many “devices”, to perform a specific function, irrespective of the physical realization. The device may be a small piece or big one that consists of parts such as, Load receptor, Load-transmitting device, Load measuring device & Load indicating device.
Load receptor is a part of the instrument intended to receive the load, example the weighing pan / top pan of the instrument where the material weight is being measured; we have different MOC like mild steel & stainless steel. Load-transmitting device is a Part of the instrument for transmitting the force produced by the load acting on the load receptor to the load-measuring device is nothing but the total weighing frame. There are different MOC structures such as mild steel & stainless steel in weighing frames. In some of the bigger machines the load receptor & load transmitting devices are combined into a single part.
The integral part of the weighing Machine is Load-measuring device. This is a part of the instrument for measuring the mass of the load by means of an equilibrium device for balancing the force coming from the load transmitting device to an indicating or printing device. This part is in general called as Load cell.
Finally, the Load indicating device is a part of the instrument, nothing but the electronic device of an instrument that performs the analog-to-digital conversion of the output signal of the load cell, and which further processes the data, and displays the weighing result in units of mass.
We have different types of weighing instruments in the field of usage like Analytical Balance, Animal scale, Check weighing scale, Counting scale, Crane scale, Jeweler’s scale, Multi-Interval scale (also Multi-range, Dual range), Platform scale, Postal, Point-of-Sale scale, Pallet scale, Pallet truck scale, Vehicle scale…..etc and are all called with different names based on area of usage
Platform scales: How Do They Work?
On the platform scale, an object is placed to be weighed, and the scale does the rest of the work. In addition to applying compressive force to the platform, the object also transmits the force to the mechanism within the platform scale that converts it into a weight measurement the user can read and record. An indicator of the platform scale displays the reading upon completing the process.
Types of Platform Scales
Platform scales that fit on tabletops, countertops, and workstations are known as bench scales. They are more compact than floor scales and take up less space. The weighing object is placed on the bench scale’s pan, which may be withdrawn for easy cleaning. Bench scales have a smaller weight capacity than floor scales. Bench scales aren’t ideal for weighing oversized objects.
Bench scales are used for a wide range of commercial and industrial purposes. Bench scales are programmed and automated to enhance their usefulness and improve production, service quality, and efficiency. Based on the weight of the items, a processing system is utilized to quickly calculate. Smart Bench scales capacity ranges from 3kgs to 30kgs.
Industrial Heavy-duty Platform Scales
They are commonly found in factories, warehouses, and shipping firms. They’re built to lift bigger weights and survive the severe and hazardous conditions. Smart Platform scales capacity ranges from 60kgs to 300kgs and there on to higher load capacities. There are several kinds of platform scales, each with different capabilities and features.
Low floor scales with heavy Load:
The platform top is angled between 1 and 2 inches above the ground. This makes manual loading and unloading easier for the worker, as well as making moving equipment more accessible. To make loading and unloading objects easier, a hinged ramp can be added on the scale’s edge.
To precisely weigh larger objects, low-profile floor scales may feature raised side rails with load cells underneath them. This design, however, can be problematic for goods with unusual shapes. Smart Low floor scales capacity ranges from 150kgs to 3000kgs.
A washdown scale is outfitted with IP-rated stainless-steel construction and thorough sealing, enabling it to withstand thorough, frequent cleaning with a high-pressure washer or a hose. Scales and balances are used in various industries eg: chemical, food, pharma and cosmetic based on the applications. To withstand harsh industrial or wet environments washdown scales are built. Digital washdown scales are designed to be washed easily or cleaned down after use, so they have to avoid particles and liquids from entering into the internal components of the unit. When scale is splashed or has residue from the weighing previous samples, frequent washing of the scale is required.

Floor Washdown scales
Floor washdown scales are durable and can handle bigger, heavier loads. Floor scales are great because they’re very versatile, allowing you to use a single scale to perform multiple functions. These scales are often used in food processing areas, commercial warehouses and dockyards for weighing items in bulk and many other purposes. Smart Floor Washdown scales capacity ranges from 300kgs to 1500kgs.
The pallet jack and associated handling equipment load the palletized products at the middle of the U-shaped floor scale for weighing in pallet scales (or U-scales). This eliminates the requirement for a ramp and promotes space efficiency by eliminating the need for the handling equipment to maneuver at the scale’s edge during loading and unloading. Smart pallet scales capacity ranges from 1000kgs to 2000kgs.
