METSAR Wash -down scale design provides ergonomic handling for the areas not suitable for in pit scales. With its full stainless structure and IP68 protected stainless steel load cells, Washdown scale is compatible with GMP and HACCP production standards and completely fits to corrosive, wet and dirt free industrial environments in chemical, food, pharma and cosmetic industries.
-Particularly designed lifting device supported by hydraulic cylinder enables easy and fine cleaning for weighing applications need often cleaning to eliminate hygiene and contamination risks.

-These scales are produced according to European directives and are compatible with OIML standards.

WHAT ARE WASHDOWN SCALES?
A washdown scale is equipped with IP-rated stainless steel structure and comprehensive sealing, enabling it to withstand thorough, frequent cleaning with a high-pressure washer or a hose. Scales and balances are used in various industries based on the applications. To withstand harsh industrial or wet environments washdown scales are built. Digital washdown scales are designed to be washed easily or cleaned down after use, so they have to avoid particles and liquids from entering into the internal components of the unit. When scale is splashed or has residue from the weighing previous samples, frequent washing of the scale is required.
Why we use the term “Washdown”instead of Waterproof?
Not all washdown scales have the same protection. IP ratings and description play an important role when purchasing a washdown scale. Some scales might not be resistant to water and dust even though a scale is made of stainless steel as the load cells aren’t sealed. An IP rating tells us how much are they resistant to water or dust and what kind of cleaning they can handle. Some scales can be washed with pressure hose while some can resist spills or humid environments.
Washdown scales rated IP68 or above can be considered completely waterproof, while scales IP67-rated and lower offer superior protection against water when compared with non-IP rated scales.

What does an IP rating mean?

The standards are set and regulated by International Electro technical Commission for defining the type of protection. The international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies are prepared and published by the world’s leading organization IEC.
The IP rating is a number that corresponds with the rank of protection. The degrees of ingress protection “IP” is followed by a two-digit number, such as IP65, IP66 and IP67. The numbers differ depending on the amount of protection provided.
The foremost digit in the IP rating designates how well the product is protected against particulate matter, such as dust. As the number increases, so does the quantity of protection.
The following digit in the IP rating indicates how well the equipment is protected against water. Just as with the dust figure, a higher number means superior protection.
Washdown scales are available in several shapes and sizes as they’re designed to withstand being washed down after use.
Floor Washdown scales
Floor washdown scales are robust and can handle larger, heavier loads. Floor scales are extremely versatile, allowing you to use a single scale to execute several functions. These scales are often used in commercial warehouses, dockyards and food processing areas for weighing bulk items and many other purposes.

Which industries use washdown scales?
Many industries use dustproof and waterproof scales(or at least resistant to spills and humidity) as it increases the scale’s longevity even when used in tough conditions, and ensures that its precision isn’t compromised by demanding settings.
• The medical and pharmaceutical industries also use washdown scales to maintain a clean or sterile room’s condition, avoid contamination and weigh messy samples, chemicals or powders.
• The food industry maintains very high hygienic standards, and so they require frequent, thorough cleanings. Retail provisions that sell food also use washdown scales to clean between customers or to avoid cross contamination.
• Factories, warehouses and construction sites with a lot of dust and other particles also use washdown scales to ensure speedy cleaning and reliable operation despite the tough conditions.

Why we recommend using a washdown scale
Using a washdown scale not only ensures the weighing equipment stays dirt free, but speeds up cleaning, keeps the scale reliable, prevents cross contamination, dirt build up and the growth of mold or bacteria. Your scale’s IP rating is key to knowing precisely how protected it is from water and dust, as well as the extent of cleaning it can withstand. Some scales are only meant to defend against small spills and minimal dust while others can be cleaned with pressure hoses. All Metsar washdown scales are rated IP68, which means they can be cautiously hosed down or cleaned with a pressure washer. Review the hygienic guidelines and the settings where the scale will be used to make sure the conditions will not impair your scale’s operation.
We have other Industrial scales to meet different applications in pharma like filling/packaging etc.
