Pathogen Protection Capacity Of Fish By Itself May Help In Vaccine Development For Aquaculture Sectors

Researcher from University of Pennsylvania recently suggested that gills of fishes able to protect fish from number of disease causing pathogens in water. Fish induces number of protective antibody in its gills which helps in protection and which in returns may greatly support in development of vaccine for aquaculture sectors.

The study recently appears in journal Nature Communications. Researchers are now thinking this is how great interesting that fish able to detect harmful on its mucosal surfaces.

On the other hand scientists also finds the presence of antibodies named Immunoglobulin Ig T coated over mucosal surface helps in immune response .The antibody first discovered in Sunyer's lab in 2010 (Lead author of concern research too) ,before this study it was well known that only mammals can perform such a localized immune response.

According to Research:

"Our work is the first to show that fish can mount a local antibody response to pathogens and microbiota within a mucosal respiratory surface," Sunyer said. "We might expect that mucosal immunoglobulins play a key role in controlling the microbiota in mammals' lungs as well, which is something that has yet to be explored."
