People May Cope Up With Ebola If They Are Co Infected With The Malaria Parasites: Research Study

A researcher from NIH/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases first time identified new mystery while working with Ebola. People having an infection of malaria causing parasite Plasmodium may cope with with Ebola by 20 % as per data collected by a researcher at an Ebola diagnostic laboratory in Liberia in 2014-15.

The concern research recently published in Clinical Infectious Diseases. As per per experimental study at the Joint Diagnostic Laboratory in Liberia with the support of NIH & Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the experimental data are:

The Sample tested for Ebola: 1,868

Confirmed Ebola infection: 1,182

Note: The sample is collected at ELWA3 Ebola Treatment Unit in Monrovia. And again 956 confirmed patients tested for Plasmodium parasite, and 185 were found positive.

As the result, 58% with both of infection were survived compared to those 46% infected only with Ebola.

The researcher is still working to find out better confirmation of a link between Plasmodium parasites and Ebola infection for potential treatment of these infections in the future.
