Out there, in the fossil beds of Illinois, imposing estuaries stow within them a mystery begging the attention of paleontologists and the creature marks the Tully Monster (Tullimonstrum gregarium). This soft-bodied creature has mystified many due to its very different features, stalk-like eyes, segmented body and a claw tipped trunk.
Regardless, this riddle provoking controversy from cryptozoologists, does bring in heavy excitement for scientists.

A researcher claimed in 2016 that Tully Monster is a primitive jawless might have been a type of fish related to lampreys. If this hypothesis were true, it would mean Tully Monster is related to early vertebrates.

Be it thinkable or otherwise, the Tully Monster’s vivid tale together with the neverending question, “do Tully Monsters still wander the planet” keeps the Tully’s legacy alive as wondrous reminder of the infinity yet to be unraveled. Life’s history, and perhaps even more so the majesty of modern-day ecosystems, evoke a “how little” sentiment on life as we perceive it. Absolutely nothing.
