Moscow, Aug 11 (PTI) Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday declared that his nation has developed first vaccine that”works very effectively” and”forms a steady immunity” against COVID-19 as he disclosed that one of his daughters has been vaccinated.

Putin made the claim in a government meeting where he described it as”a very significant step for the world”, the Sputniknews reported.

He said that one of his daughters took part in the experimentation and she had been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“After the initial vaccination, she had a body temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, while the next day it was slightly over 37 degrees Celsius, that”s it. After the second shot, the next vaccination, her fever also rose somewhat, and then everything cleared up, she feels good and also the [antibody] titers are high,” Putin said.

“It works quite effectively” and”creates a stable immunity,” he said.

Putin thanked everybody who worked on the vaccine against the coronavirus and hoped that Russia will have the ability to begin mass production of the medication in the not too distant future.

“I hope that our colleagues abroad will also move forward, and there will be quite a lot of products which may be used on the current market, on the world market for medicines and vaccines,” Putin was quoted as saying by the bureau.

Health Minister Mikhail Murashko has stated that the initial Russian vaccine against the coronavirus will begin to be produced in two sites – the Gamaleya Research Institute and the firm Binnopharm.

He said that numerous nations are already showing interest in the vaccine, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) is investing in the production and marketing of the vaccine overseas.

It has two separately-injected components that together are expected to build a long-term resistance against the virus.

Clinical trials of the vaccine kicked off June 18 and included 38 volunteers. All of the participants acquired immunity. The first group premiered on July 15, the next set on July 20.

According to the tally maintained by Johns Hopkins University, coronavirus has infected more than 20 million individuals globally.
