ICMR says more than one crore COVID-19 tests done in India up until now

The entire number of evaluations for detection of COVID-19 spanned the 1 crore-mark in India on July 6, also an ICMR officer said. Even a single-day jump of 24,248 COVID-19 cases took India’s tally close to the 7-lakh mark on Monday, as the death toll due to this disease climbed to 19,693 with 425 new fatalities, as stated by the Union Health Ministry.

“A cumulative amount of 1,00,04,101 samples are tested till 11 am on Monday using 1,80,596 trials being analyzed on July 5,” Scientist and networking coordinator at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), doctor Lokesh Sharma explained.

There are now 1,105 testing labs in the country comprising 788 in the public sector and 317 private labs. The per-day testing capacity is also hastened, Sharma stated.

Approximately 2,00,000 samples have been tested on an typical daily for its last 14 days, ” he said.

India had spanned the two million-mark on July 1.

“The per-day testing capacity which was around 1.5 lakh on May 25 is significantly more than three lakh daily now,” Sharma explained.

Starting with a single laboratory at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Pune and then expanding to 100 labs at the start of the lockdown, the ICMR on June 23 affirmed the 1000th testing laboratory.

Many steps taken by the central government have paved the way for improved analyzing for COVID-19, medical ministry had said earlier.

The Centre has advocated states and UTs to take immediate steps to ease testing at the oldest by empowering all qualified medical professionals, including private professionals, to prescribe COVID test to some individual meeting the criteria for testing according to the ICMR tips.

Reiterating that’Test-Track-Treat’ could be the crucial strategy for early detection and containment of this epidemic, the Centre a week ago advised them to carry all probable actions to ensure full capacity utilisation of most COVID-19 testing labs.

States were also asked to ease testing in a big way by adoption of’campaign manner’ by organising analyzing camps, using mobile trucks.

This will efficiently require COVID-19 tests into the public’s doorsteps in high incidence areas to get types of all symptomatic individuals as well as their connections, and find the ones samples analyzed using rapid antigen tests, the ministry had said.
