Mumbai, June 05, 2025: Cipla Limited (BSE: 500087; NSE: CIPLA EQ; and hereafter referred to as “Cipla”) today announced that it has been certified as a water positive organisation by Bureau Veritas (BVQi) for its India operations in line with its sustainability targets. This milestone reinforces Cipla’s focused efforts to be a responsible corporate citizen and limit any adverse impact on the planet from our operations.
Cipla’s journey toward water positivity is rooted in continuous organisation-wide efforts focused on conserving, recycling, and replenishing water both within its operations and in the communities it serves. As of FY 2024–25, 67% of Cipla’s India manufacturing units operate with Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems. The company also reduced overall water withdrawal across its Indian manufacturing operations by 13.1% compared to the baseline year FY 2019-20, with 50% of water withdrawn being recycled and reused. This was made possible through extensive watershed development initiatives in collaboration with Cipla Foundation, BAIF, and MYRADA, resulting in 24.7 lakh cubic metres of water (FY 2024-25) conserved across Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
Beyond its operational boundaries, Cipla has also invested in large-scale community watershed programs involving the construction of rainwater harvesting infrastructure to capture runoff and replenish groundwater aquifers. Cipla also undertook the renovation of defunct water bodies and initiated biodiversity studies, planting native tree species to restore ecological balance. These initiatives have positively impacted over 3,000 families, improving water availability, reducing migration, boosting agricultural productivity, and supporting girl child education, while reinforcing Cipla’s commitment to sustainable, community-driven solutions.
Commenting on this milestone, Mr. Umang Vohra, Managing Director and Global CEO, Cipla Limited, said, “At Cipla, we recognise that water is a critical resource and are committed towards responsible usage across our operations. This recognition is a key milestone in our sustainability journey and is a testament to the collective effort of our teams, communities, and partners. It reinforces our belief that sustainable business is smart business.”
As Cipla continues to advance its sustainability goals, the company remains committed to integrating environmental responsibility into every aspect of its operations, creating a future where business operations go hand in hand with environmental stewardship.
