Researcher from Hokkaido University, Japan found a Naked African Mole Rats with longest living (Up to 30 years) rodents has high cancer resistance property and the stem cells isolated from these mammals are anti tumerogenic.
The team of researcher isolated fibroblast of naked mole rates and converted into pluripotent stem cells and these types of programs pluripotent cells termed as induced pluripotent cells (iPSCs) and these stem cells are able to form tumors when inserted back into animals.
Scientists found negative results when inserted these iPSCs into mice with weak immune system shows they did not form any tumors in compares with human and mouse iPSCs results also depicts that the type of tumor suppressor gene named alternative reading frame (ARF) is suppressed in mice and human while remain active in naked mole rats.
"Further research into the detailed mechanisms underlying ASIS in naked mole-rats may shed new light on cancer resistance in the mole-rats and contribute to the generation of non-tumerogenic human-iPSCs, enabling safer cell-based therapeutics," said Kyoko Miura, an assistant professor at Hokkaido University.
