Aerogen lowers the transmission risk of patient generated infectious aerosol as it sits above a closed circuit potentially reducing the risk of Healthcare Professional contamination from the circuit or patient1.

Aerogen is the only closed-system high efficiency nebulizer that can be utilized for drug delivery with ventilators being used to treat COVID-19 patients.
Aerogen Vibrating Mesh technology:
Aerogen vibrating mesh technology comprises a unique dome-shaped aperture plate perforated with over 1,000 precision formed tapered holes. When energy is applied, the aperture plate vibrates at 128,000 times a second producing a low-velocity, fine particle, nebulised mist of consistently sized droplets (1-5μm) to achieve superior lung deposition of medication. ,
Recent guidelines from the UK government have stated that when treating respiratory patients2;

1. A closed suctioning system must be used
2. Ventilator circuits should not be broken unless necessary.

Unlike conventional nebulisers, the Aerogen Solo1:

1. Has an in-line circuit design so the ventilation circuit does not need to be broken for drug delivery
2. Is designed so that the medication reservoir is isolated from the breathing circuit minimising nebulisation of
contaminated fluids
3. Delivers the medication dose with minimal residual remaining after nebulisation

Aerogen set up
During mechanical ventilation with active humidification, the nebuliser can be placed on the dry side of the humidifier or at the inspiratory limb of the breathing circuit before the patient wye. In addition, the Aerogen Solo can be placed on the patient side of the wye and this facilitates the use of a Heat and Moisture Exchanger
(HME).

Aerogen Partnerships:
The unique Aerosol technology and closed circuit in-line system design is trusted by the world’s leading mechanical ventilation companies. Including Philips, GE, Maquet Getinge, Hamilton, Drager.
1.Aerogen collaborated with Philips Healthcare to develop the NIVO, which is designed for use with Philips oro-nasal facemask & provides patients with all the benefits of Aerogen’s aerosol drug delivery technology in an NIV setting.fo
2.Aerogen technology has been integrated into the GE Carescape R860
3.Maquet incorporated Aerogen’s aerosol drug delivery technology into a customized Aerogen module designed specifically for the SERVO-i, SERVO-u and SERVO-n..
4.Hamilton offer integrated Aerogen modules with C6 & S1/G5,
5.Both Drager & Covidien offer Aerogen options with their ventilators
